Epiphany 5

Today's readings are talking about connection between preaching and atonement. They are saying that atonement is made for all those who are called to preach God's message.

Yet there are some very hard words in these passages, particularly Isaiah's. "Make the mind of this people dull." "Even if a tenth part remain in it, it will be burned again."

Yet we know a great multitude are saved (Rev. 7:9) and Paul calls his message good news. But how is this multitude be saved and why is this good news? Because by calling the church — which is all of us, not just the clergy — to preach His message, God is saving many from His curse.
