Our troubles make us saints

All Saints' Day

Revelation 6:15-17, 7: 9-17; 1 John 3:1-3; Matthew 5:1-12

Where does evil come from and, moreover, what purpose does it serve?

If we say evil comes from God, that makes Him a monster, but if we say it comes from some other unstoppable source (like the Devil) that makes God a weakling. A monster or weakling is not a god worth believing in.

God is good and God has made all things "very good" (Gen. 1:31). The Bible is an epic-length vindication of God's goodness, culminating in this Sunday's reading from Revelation, with the saints themselves standing vindicated before the throne of God.
